I think your audience will matter. If you were to ask my husband, I don't even think he is really even interested in erotic literature. From the female perspective though, a lot of it has to do with the background of those involved. I like reading things about real people. Seeing sex through the eyes of normal life is hot to me. Sure, it's exciting to read about someone sucking on or licking some body part, but the real page turner for me is learning about the person and what makes them excited, or, experiences that are an escape for them from every day life. Especially when it's about things that you would least expect in normal life. It also helps if there is a naughtiness or taboo factor to it. If someone is doing something they shouldn't be doing, that makes my temperature rise very quickly.

My husband likes it when I tell him that other guys flirt with me or make comments. Their comments in of themselves don't turn me on, but I like the reaction I get out of my husband when I tell him about them. It's fun seeing him know that I'm desired by others. It even happened at church once and I told him what the comment was, but not who made it. It drove him CRAZY for a week trying to figure out who it was and became kind of a little cat and mouse game that entertained me. I eventually told him, and when I did it was kind of anti-climatic because the guy who made the comment was an old guy, but it was still fun seeing him get all hot and bothered trying to figure out who at church would say something like that.
